Blog post on Croatia
Arriving at one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at in my life
After flying from Athens to Dubrovnik, we finally arrived at one of my dream trip bucket list destinations: Croatia.
We took a long bus ride from the airport to the city and walked our way towards our hostel.
Little did I know I was about to stay in one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at in my life! Hostel 365 For U was nice looking, beds were comfortable and had curtains, lockers were provided, and the washrooms were very clean.
My girlfriend even said that this hostel was probably nicer than the hotel we stayed at later on this trip.
Grabbing a bite at a grocery store
Since my girlfriend and I were budget backpackers when we travelled to Croatia, we decided to save money eating out by getting food at a local grocery store instead.
This was a great idea as the food there was very good!
After fueling up our body, we were ready for the long day ahead of us to explore the Old City of Dubrovnik.
The Old City of Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik was the filming location of King’s Landing in Game of Thrones. Our first stop was actually the garden setting in King’s Landing.
Next, we were also given a map of the city which showed all the must-see points in the old city. We spent the entire day going from point to point! It was like playing a fun scavenger hunt type of game.
And of course, the beautiful blue waters of the Mediterranean did not disappoint.
Walking around the city walls
After checking the ground area, we got some tickets to walk around the city walls.
To say it’s stunning is doing it an injustice. It was beyond georgous.
Before long, we reached one of the high points of the walls. This high point offered an incredible view of the entire city. We stayed here for a bit admiring the view. When Karen was exhausted from all the sight seeing, we called it a day and went back to our hostel.
Sheraton Dubrovnik Riviera
On our second day, we decided to stay in a nice hotel. Karen was flying back to Canada soon and I would be travelling for two more weeks before going back home to finish my one year trip around the world. We thought we should end our trip by splurging a bit on a very nice and relaxing hotel.
The hotel was nice but Karen actually enjoyed staying at the hostel more than this hotel.
Sad farewell
On Karen’s last day, we had a sad goodbye as Karen would be flying home. We spent two weeks together travelling in Bulgaria, Greece, and Croatia and now she’s going home. I wasn’t as sad as her because in two weeks, I would be going home and we’d be seeing each other more frequently then.
I stayed for one more day in Croatia before leaving to go to my next destination which was Ukraine.
Conclusion
My only regret going to Croatia was not travelling to more parts of the country. I would have loved to check out Split also and possibly do a side trip to Mostar and Kotor. But, there’s always next time and it’s good to come back to places I’ve been to before. Especially when I had a great time visiting those countries.
