My Current Ultimate Bucket List Travel Destinations

I’ve always felt that I have way too many bucket list travel destinations. However, when I took the time to jot them down, it’s actually not as big as I thought. The common theme in my bucket list travel destinations is that most of them involve adventure travel. I only have four items on the list under the luxury category. Surprisingly, I also enjoy seeing wildlife which has a noticeable presence in my bucket list travel destinations.

In this article, you will see what my dream bucket list travel destinations are and a general plan of action on how I plan on seeing them.

VIDEO – My Current Bucket List Travel Destinations

Africa

  • Ghadames
  • Guelta d’Archei Lake
  • Leptis Magna
  • Mauritania ore train
  • Ngorongoro Crater
  • Niger – Agadez and Zinder
  • Serengeti
  • Timbuktu
  • Wildebeest Migration

What I hate about my bucket list travel destinations in Africa is a lot of them are expensive or dangerous. For example, all the safari-related ones in Africa cost a lot of money. As much as I love wildlife, I squirm at the thought of how much money I need to spend to see them.

Libya was recently a war zone and Mali has terrorists making both countries challenging to visit and see the sights that I want to see. The Mauritania ore train ride is also sketchy; ironically, it might be the most feasible one on this list.

Antarctica

Going to Antarctica isn’t difficult but it sure is expensive. Apparently, the best way to save money on the journey to Antarctica is to first go to the city of Ushuaia and hope to score a last-minute deal. From my research, you need to hang out at Ushuaia until you find a deal close to 50% off. You do need to be patient to score this deal and it’s not recommended for travellers with a tight schedule.

Asia

  • Annapurna Circuit
  • East Java
  • Huashan Cliff Walk
  • The Maldives over the water bungalow
  • Mount Bromo
  • Pamir Highway
  • Western Papua – Raja Ampat

My bucket list of travel destinations in Asia is not impossible to do. The even Maldives with the expensive over-the-water bungalow experience can be hacked through points and miles to significantly reduce the cost.

Doing the Pamir Highway road trip starting from Kyrgyzstan and going to Tajikistan and ending in Afghanistan is the most adventurous part of my bucket list travel destination in Asia.

Europe

  • Greenland
  • Iceland Ring Road
  • Svalbard Polar Bears

My bucket list travel destinations in Europe is not difficult to do, it’s just very expensive. I plan on doing these when I’m much older when I’m financially set.

Middle East

  • Leptis Magna
  • Ghadames
  • Socotra
  • Syria (Damascus, Aleppo, Palmyra, Krak des Chevaliers)

My bucket list travel destination in the Middle East is on the sketchy side. Leptis Magna and Ghadames are in Libya which until recently is a war zone. The Syrian war is coming to an end and tourism has already resumed. Travelling to Syria isn’t expensive so this will be one of the easier ones to complete on this list.

Socotra is both difficult to reach and also very expensive. I am not looking forward to arranging the logistics for this trip.

North America

  • Arches National Park
  • Churchill Manitoba Polar Bears
  • Cruise ship to visit 8+ Caribbean countries
  • Grise Fjord
  • Monument Valley National Park
  • Waves National Park
  • Whiterim Trail Bikepacking

Most of my bucket list travel destinations in North America are very doable. The ones in Utah can actually be done over a long weekend which is my plan for completing them.

Churchill Manitoba Polar bears are expensive so I’ll wait until I’m older to do that.

The Caribbean cruise ship is quite accessible as well. It’s just a matter of saving money to make it happen.

Oceania

  • Bora Bora over the water bungalow
  • Great Barrier Reef
  • New Zealand campervan road trip
  • Tongariro National Park

Going on the Bora Bora over the water bungalow is doable via points and miles. As a matter of fact, I already have enough points to go there. It’s just a matter of booking a flight there and making a redemption to make it happen.

I’d love to do a campervan road trip in New Zealand and along the way, do the awesome day hike at Tongariro National Park.

South America

  • Easter Island
  • Galapagos Island
  • Lençóis Maranhenses
  • Patagonia
  • Perito Moreno Glacier

The strategy for scoring a great deal to go to Galapagos Island is the same as Antarctica. Basically, fly over to the Galapagos Island using Aeroplan and hang out there until I find a massively discounted deal.

Easter Island is more tricky now since LATAM cannot be booked with British Airways Avios. I will have to get more American credit cards to get the points needed to book a flight to Easter Island.

Flights

  • Singapore to New York current world’s longest flight on Singapore Airlines Business Class

I’ve actually booked this flight already with my girlfriend until the pandemic hit and we had to cancel our trip. Sucks. As of now, it’s hard to find availability again but I hope it becomes possible once the pandemic comes to an end.

Conclusion

Like anything in life, the biggest obstacle to completing all these bucket list travel destinations is money. Thankfully, travel hacking strategies can eliminate many of those problems. I have no problems deferring travelling to some of these destinations until I’m much older. My main priority is adventure travel which I’d like to do while I’m young. The cruises and wildlife safaris can wait.
