Alaska Airlines Platinum Plus Mastercard

When you apply for the MBNA Alaska Airlines Platinum Plus Mastercard, you will earn 20,000 Alaska Miles after spending $1,000 in your first 90 days. The credit card also has an annual fee of $75. However, if you apply for the credit card through Great Canadian Rebates (referral link), you will get $50 cashback. This essentially reduces the annual fee to $25.

Alaska Airlines Platinum Plus Mastercard perks

  • Earn 3 miles for every $1 spent with Alaska Airlines
  • Earn 1 mile for every $1 spent on everything else
  • Get an Alaska Airlines companion fare voucher that costs $121 USD (valid with Alaska Airline carriers only) for your companion
  • Get 10% off the base rate for car rentals with Avis or Budget Rent A Car (5% discount at valid international destinations)
  • 90 days purchase assurance with a total lifetime accumulative limit of $60,000 per account
  • Doubles the warranty of new purchases for one additional year

I personally think the companion fare is good to use during peak season. This is because peak season is when points and miles are normally not available for redemption. The companion fare can reduce the cost of your flight by near 50% when the cost of flying is at its priciest.

There’s also no annual income requirement making this credit card quite accessible to most people.

Conclusion

Overall, I think this credit card is a solid one to get in Canada, especially if you apply through Great Canadian Rebates to get $50 cashback. 20,000 Alaska miles will help you go on dream trips.

Personally, I like collecting Alaska Miles because it gives me access to flights I cannot redeem with Aeroplan or British Airways Avios. Alaska miles are also easy to redeem making these points one of the most user-friendly.
