AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Business USA Review

In my opinion, one of the best cards to get in the United States as a Canadian is the AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Business credit card. This card is loaded with perks that make it worthwhile to keep even after the first year of having this credit card.

AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Business

The AMEX Marriott Bonvoy card will earn you 75,000 Marriott Bonvoy points after spending $3,000 USD in your first 3 months. One of the main benefits of this card is the statement credit of $150 that you get after spending $3000 USD in 3 months. This effectively cancels out the $125 annual fee. As a matter of fact, you even gain a profit of $25 USD.

Other perks the AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Business comes with are:

  • 6x the points for every $1 spent at Marriott Hotels
  • 4x the points for every $1 spent at restaurants, gas stations, and your wireless phone plan in the United States
  • 2x the points for all other purchases
  • 1 category 5 free night certificate every year (after your first year)
  • Silver elite status
  • 15 elite night credits
  • Premium on-property internet access
  • No foreign transaction fee
  • Car rental insurance
  • Baggage insurance plan ($1,250 for carry-on and $500 for check-in baggage)

One of the biggest perks for this credit card is getting that 15 elite night stay credit every year. If you pair it up with an AMEX Marriott Bonvoy personal credit card in the US, you’ll get 30 elite night stay credits every year. That means you only need to stay 20 nights per year at a Marriott property if you want to get or maintain Platinum Elite status.

Platinum Elite status is a big deal because you get free breakfast and suite room upgrades.

You also get a category 5 free night certificate every year. This perk justifies the $125 USD annual fee that you pay per year.

Conclusion

The category 5 free night certificate, and 15 elite nights towards elite status are the biggest benefit to this credit card. For those reasons, I put the AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Business as one of my permanent credit cards. If your goal is to get lifetime Platinum Elite status with Marriott, this card will help you get there.
