VIDEO – How Long Before Your Travel And Hotel Points Expire in Canada
Hotel and Travel Points expiry dates
- Aeroplan – 18 months
- British Airways Avios – 36 months
- Alaska Airlines – 24 months
- Asia Miles – 18 months
- WestJet – no expiration period
- Marriott Bonvoy – 24 months
- Best Western – no expiration period
- Hilton Honors – 12 months
In order to push back the expiry date, you must create an activity with that specific hotel or travel points program. An activity is anytime you earn or redeem any points.
Typically, having an airline or hotel branded credit card is enough to keep pushing the expiry date further. Every time you make a purchase using your credit card, a few points will be credited to your account.
From my personal experience, it’s relatively easy to prevent your points from expiring as long as you know when the expiry date it. In the old Asia Miles program, points had a three year hard expiry date for your points. Thankfully, they’ve changed that.
Hilton Honors is another program that is harder to keep your expiry date pushed back in Canada. That’s because, you have to transfer your AMEX MR points in order to earn Hilton Honors points. And, your other option is to get American credit cards that can help you earn Hilton Honors points directly.
