American Express AeroplanPlus Gold Card Review

In this blog post, I will be doing a complete American Express AeroplanPlus Gold Card review to see who is best suited to get this credit card in Canada. One of the reasons I am doing a review of this card is because it used to be a good credit card to get for Canadians in the past.

I have no affiliation with American Express or this credit card.

The biggest benefit of this credit card is the ability to earn 15,000 Aeroplan miles after spending $1500 within 90 days. To be honest, this perk is not very good. In the past, the welcome bonus points were as high as 26,000 Aeroplan miles. Back then, it was a decent card to get to top up your Aeroplan miles balance.

In the past, the common credit card combination was:

  • AMEX Gold + AMEX Business Gold + AMEX AeroplanPlus Gold Card

By getting those three cards, people earned 91,000 Aeroplan miles easily. Nowadays, all three of these credit cards have annual fees. And, the signup bonus for the AeroplanPlus specifically has dwindled to merely 15,000 Aeroplan miles.

Other perks for this card include:

  • Earn 1 Aeroplan Miles for every $1 spent
  • Earn 1.25 Aeroplan Miles for every $1 spent over $10,000 annually
  • Double the Aeroplan Miles earned for purchases at over 150 Aeroplan partner brands
  • Flight delay insurance
  • Baggage delay insurance
  • Lost or stolen baggage insurance
  • Hotel burglary insurance
  • 500,000 travel accident insurance
  • Car rental theft and damage insurance

Card eligibility

There’s no income requirements to get this credit card.

When the time comes that the sign-up bonus for this credit card increases again. Then that is the time it will be a good idea to get this credit card. Until then, I’d stay away from this credit card and apply for other cards with better offers.
