CIBC Aerogold Infinite Visa Review

Recently, CIBC released a ton of credit cards on promotions and I went on a credit card sign up spree. One of those credit cards is the CIBC Aerogold Infinite Visa (you can sign up for the card on the CIBC website). Is it worth getting this card? In my opinion, yes it is. But we’ll cover the reasons why in this article.

Aeroplan Miles

CIBC Aerogold Infinite Visa, CIBC Aerogold Infinite Visa Review

  • Receive a welcome bonus of 20,000 Aeroplan Miles after your first purchase
  • Receive an additional 15,000 Aeroplan Miles after spending $10,000 within 1 year of getting this card
  • Earn 1 Aeroplan Mile for every $1 spent on this card
  • Earn 1.5 Aeroplan Miles for every $1 spent at grocery stores, gas stations, drugstores, and on purchases
  • Get double the Aeroplan Miles when you pay with the CIBC Aerogold Infinite Visa while showing your Aeroplan membership card at over 150 Aeroplan partners and 100 online retailers through the Aeroplan eStore and when you purchase a flight operated by Air Canada and its global network of airlines

The biggest perk here is obviously the welcome bonus points and the minimum spend bonus points as well. 35,000 Aeroplan miles is a lot and seeing as there’s no annual fee for the first year, this card is definitely a good one to get.

To be eligible to get this card, you need to meet the following income criteria:

  • $60,000 personal income or
  • $100,000 household income

If you don’t meet the personal income, they’re pretty flexible with the household income. For example, if you live with family members, then you can just add up everyone’s income together along with yours under household income. That’s the easiest way to get approved for this credit card if you don’t meet the requirements.

CIBC Aerogold Infinite Visa benefits

  • Priority Check-in
  • Complimentary first checked bag
  • Priority Boarding
  • Luxury Hotel Collection benefits (not available at the moment due to COVID-19)
  • Get up to 25% off when renting a car from Avis or Budget when you pay with your CIBC Aerogold Infinite Visa
  • Out-Of-Province emergency travel medical insurance for the first 15 days of your trip
  • Common carrier accident insurance
  • Auto Rental Collision / Loss Damage insurance

I think the biggest perk here is the priority check-in and boarding. Not having to line up for so long really helps. Also, boarding the plane first ensures you get an overhead compartment space.

I don’t like their medical insurance because it deals with Global Excel Management. I personally had a bad experience with this company which is the same insurance company that AMEX uses.

The Auto Rental Collision / Loss Damage insurance is definitely useful. What I like about it is if you can’t rent with Avis or Hertz which you normally would if you have an AMEX card (because of the same insurance benefits), then you can rent a car through Budget.

I think if you can get approved for this credit card, then it’s a no-brainer to apply for it. Because the card has no annual fee right now, it’s a great way to earn tons of Aeroplan Miles while saving money at the same time.

The COVID lockdown will end at some point and we can start travelling again before you know it. This is a good way to rack up tons and redeem your Aeroplan miles right before the Q4 change to the program. Most likely, the program will your Aeroplan Miles will be devalued then so you get a final last rush of redemption before that happens.
