Ah, travellers that are status seekers. I’ll hold my opinion on these people for now. But read on to find out what these travellers are like!

The 11 types of travellers I met during my travels:

What are travellers that are status seekers like?

Travellers that are status seekers love travelling in luxury. They love travelling in business class and first class. As far as accommodations go, they tend to stay at fancy 5-star hotels or luxurious resorts.

Travellers that are status seekers tend to go to places that are popular. Going to off-beaten travel destinations is not for them.

The goal for their vacation is to take Instagram or Facebook envy inducing pictures. They want to make sure their friends and family either feel jealous of them or think highly of them.

Travel destinations that status seekers like

Some popular travel destinations that status seekers enjoy are:

As you can see, many of these places are your common destinations that you’d expect someone to go to. And that’s the point. Travellers that are status seekers don’t want to go anywhere that’s not popular.

My opinion of travellers that are status seekers

One of my favourite moments was when one of my friends who definitely fits the bill of this type of pretentious traveller asked me “how fast can you get out of your writing gig and travelling around the world?”

I thought to myself and said, I don’t want to get out of my travel gig of travelling around the world. I enjoy what I’m doing it and I’m doing it for me and to get some awesome life experience.

Moreover, living life as a pretentious idiot is a slippery slope because you’ll get suck in the rat race and end up living a life that you don’t actually want. Instead, you fall for the trap of chasing society’s ideal image instead of pursuing something that makes you happy and feel fulfilled. It’s like the popular saying by Will Smith: “Too many people spend money they haven’t earned, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people they don’t like.”

And I think this saying is very much true for the status seeking travellers. And sadly, most people probably don’t even care about their pathetic attempt to show off.

My recommendation for travellers that are status seekers

Now, if you’re one of those people that are status seekers because you really enjoy being one. Then by all means, go for it! I’m a big believer in doing something for yourself and not other people. If you get off being a status seeker traveller, then don’t let me stop you from doing it!

As a matter of fact, I’d recommend using points and miles strategies to get business class or first class flights and earning tons of hotel points to stay at fancy 5 star hotels!

When luxury travel is not pretentious but actually nice!

I’m not knocking off luxury travel at all. For all the individuals out there that are not status seekers; but instead, enjoy travelling in luxury once in awhile with loved ones or close friends and family, then I can definitely support that!

It is awesome to stay in a nice fancy hotel, especially to relax after a much needed vacation. Flying on business class is definitely great if you are flying to many places and don’t want to feel fatigued from flying in often times cramped economy.

Luxury travel definitely has its perks and I do like redeeming my points and miles for the finer things in life for special occasions.

So don’t think I’m a luxury travel hater. I’m not. I’m just a hater of travellers that are status seekers who’s goal is to show off and be pretentious. Sadly, no one really buys their facade. So at the end of the day, they just wasted their time.
